There are new details from State Police about those who survived this weekend’s deadly two car crash in Oxford. One victim has been released from the hospital, but all others are still getting treatment. State Police say 15-year-old Brandy Smith of Bainbridge, veered off the road and overcorrected the car she was driving early Sunday morning, crossing over the center line on Country Route 35 and striking a minivan driven by 48-year-old David Clark of Oxford. Both drivers were killed.
There was one passenger in the car with Smith, 20-year-old Travis Borne of Nineveh. He was taken to Wilson Hospital for head injuries and a broken femur. Troopers say the six passengers in Clark’s car were Oxford residents. They were 34-year-old Lorelei Couille who was the front seat passenger; 10-year-old Audrielle Clark, 12-year-old Cody Clark, 14-year-old Devin Clark, 15-year-old Brianne Dewey, and 15-year-old Erin Redfield. 14-year-old Devin Clark was released from Wilson Hospital. All other passengers were transferred to Upstate Medical University with a variety of injuries, including several broken femurs and head injuries. All appear to be non-life threatening.
Troopers say Smith did not have any alcohol or drugs in her system during the time of the accident, and they have not yet commented on why she was behind the wheel, despite being under the legal driving age. The investigation is ongoing.
