Joel Shelley was arraigned in Barton Town Court Wednesday on two felony charges, including criminal possession of a weapon and menacing a police officer.
It took two state troopers to get Joel Shelley in and out of the police car Wednesday as he was taken to Barton Town Court.
The injuries from Saturday’s shooting were extensive, forcing him to use a wheelchair.
Officials say Shelley was shot over the weekend after allegedly threatening state troopers with a shotgun and led them on a chase.
Police say the chase ended in the Town of Barton, where he got out of the car with the shotgun in hand, forcing troopers to fire at him.
Shelley does not yet have representation, but the Assistant District Attorney says he could face more charges and that alcohol may have been a factor in the incident
Shelley’s now in custody of the Tioga County Sheriff on $100,000 bail.
He has a felony hearing next Monday and a few days later, all of this will be presented to a grand jury
