As the United State Marine Corps celebrated its 238th birthday on Sunday, Marines in Binghamton joined in on the celebration. The John W. Thurston Marine Corps League Auxiliary Detachment hosted a dinner on Saturday night. The celebration featured a cutting of a cake with a ceremonial Marine saber, along with a speech from Broome County Sheriff David Harder. The Marine Corps celebrates its birthday every year to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers who have served in the branch.
