The Vestal Town Board approved their 2011 budget Wednesday night.
The spending plan includes a property tax increase of nearly 6 percent to residents. Board members have spent the last eight weeks trimming and reorganizing the budget, which slashed the tax hike to its current level from the 22 percent that was first proposed.
One of the biggest budget cuts was funding to the Vestal Public Library. The town will cut staff, take away $20,000 in funds for book purchases and reduce the library’s operating hours to 57 per week.
Other cuts were made in the police and parks departments.
