(Vestal, NY) — Vestal police have reported their investigation into the November 24 motor vehicle accident, that killed a Vestal High School senior student, has concluded with charges filed against the (unnamed) 17-year-old operator of the vehicle:
- Manslaughter, 2nd degree, C Felony;
- Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, 2nd degree, D Felony;
- Reckless Endangerment, 3 counts, 2nd degree, Misdemeanor.
At approximately 1:17am Thanksgiving morning, Vestal police responded to Clayton Avenue and Lagrange Street for a report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle had struck a fence on Clayton Avenue, according to Capt. Christopher J. Streno.
A passenger, Kadin J. Abdullah, 18, of Vestal, and a senior at Vestal High School, sustained trauma from the crash and despite life-saving efforts of officers and responding EMT’s, Abdullah was pronounced deceased at the scene. His published obituary noted (Thanksgiving) November 24, was Abdullah’s 18th birthday.
Along with the Penal law charges againt the driver, the following Vehicle & Traffic charges were also filed by Vestal police:
- 1192-1 – DWAI
- 1194-1b – Refusal to Submit to Pre-Screen Device
- 1212 – Reckless Driving
- 1180d – Speed in Zone
- 509-2 – Operating Out of Class
- 122c-3 – Failure to Wear Seatbelt (2 counts)
The accused adolescent has been arraigned in the Youth division of Broome County Court.
