About 200 parents and students attended a public meeting at the Vestal Middle School last night regarding possible program cuts for budget reasons.
The district is considering the elimination of five teaching position, as well as cuts to the sports programs in 7th and 8th grade. Freshman girls and boys basketball may also be affected.
The district’s Chinese Mandarin language program could possibly be eliminated.
Many attendees lined up to speak, the majority focused on the cuts in the athletic programs.
The district has scheduled three further sessions where the public can provide their feedback.
The sessions will be February 1st, February 15th and March 1st.
All will begin at 7 p.m. in the Middle School cafeteria.
