A long time Vestal town board member has announced his intention to run for Town Supervisor. John Schaffer held an announcement reception at the American Legion in Vestal Tuesday evening.
Schaffer is a democrat and has served on the town board for the past six years. He says one of his main goals is to help make the town more fiscally conservative.
Schaffer said, “The federal government, the state, the county is all cutting back on us and Vestal gets a little piece of that and I think it has to be managed a little better than it is being managed. We bust our butts on the budget and turn around and implement everything we have taken out and put it right back in. We keep spending as usual, it has to stop.”
The current town supervisor, Pete Andreasen, also announced his plans Tuesday to seek re-election. Andreasen is currently serving his sixth year as town supervisor.
