The Georgia native who is charged with murdering his pregnant ex-girlfriend in Elmira has been arraigned on murder charges.
Police say 35-year-old Arteamus Wells admitted to murdering 19-year-old Erin Smith in her apartment on Monday morning.
Wells was arraigned on a charge of second-degree murder in Chemung County Court Tuesday. He was assigned a lawyer and remanded to the county jail without bail.
Wells will be back in court later this week.
Smith was five months pregnant.
