A Chemung County police chief was injured when his patrol car was struck in an intersection Monday.
The sheriff’s office says West Elmira Police Chief Peter Michalko was struck in the driver’s side door around 7:30am at the intersection of Water Street and the Demarest Parkway.
Michalko suffered an injury to his left side. He was taken to the Arnot Ogden Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the car that struck the chief, 65-year-old Joan Schlappi-Allen, was not injured. She was ticketed for failing to yield the right of way at a stop sign.
