The New York State Board of Historic Preservation has recommended that a home in Whitney Point be added to both State and National Registers of historic places. The Henry Whitney House is all that remains of a 200-acre farm that was in operation for over 100 years between the 1850s and 1960s. In addition, its original owner, Henry Whitney, was a member of one of the founding families of Whitney Point.
The Henry Whitney House is one of 26 recommendations by the State Board of Historic Preservation this year. Its recommendation must now be approved by New York’s preservation officer. If approved, the Henry Whitney House would then be more easily eligible for revitalization and preservation grants.
