A Whitney Point home was severely damaged by a house fire early this morning. A man and his dog were able to safely escape the fire, which was called in just after 3:30 this morning. Firefighters responded to 189 Eldridge Road and found heavy smoke and flames through the roof of the home upon their arrival. At that time, the man and his dog had already escaped. Crews battled the freezing temperatures and were able to knock down the flames in about 45 minutes. The home sustained smoke and water damage, and is likely a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Firefighters from Whitney Point, Chenango Forks, Glen Aubrey, Maine, Union Center, Killawog, and Lisle all responded to the scene.
