A nine-year-old girl from Windsor has been busy helping out the Ronald McDonald House in Syracuse.
Maralee Bixby and friends have collected nearly a million soda can tabs at their elementary school, which Maralee and her parents have driven up to the home in Syracuse.
For her efforts, Maralee received a $1,000 community service award that she will also donate to the Ronald McDonald House. The facility offers free lodging to families whose children are receiving treatment at area hospitals.
Maralee says she is thankful to help out, since her parents stayed at a Ronald McDonald House in Florida when she was younger and dealing with a medical issue.
Maralee says she plans to continue collecting tabs and hopes to expand her fundraising efforts once she gets into high school.
