A man on a bicycle rode up to a drive-in teller and passed a note to the teller demanding money.
The robbery attempt was made at a Corning branch of the Chemung Canal Trust on Friday.
The teller phoned 911, and the bicycler rode away empty handed.
Police believe they have recovered the getaway bike.
They are seeking a tall white male, wearing a dark jacket and dark pants.
