Ceremonies were held Tuesday in Big Flats to honor State Trooper Andrew Sperr on the fifth anniversary of his death.
Sperr was shot and killed by two men who had just robbed a nearby branch of the Chemung Canal Trust.
A park was constructed at the spot where the state trooper died.
The community support has had a profound affect on his family.
I am thankful to the community, all of whom were total strangers to us, to the family, who have done such a wonderful, beautiful and heartfelt job of memorializing AJ, said the Trooper’s father.
The local community has also established a scholarship fund at Elmira College.
