The National Weather Service has completed its assessment of storm damage from a squall line that rolled through the area late Sunday and Monday morning. A microburst with estimated winds at 70 mph blew through Conklin, N.Y., damaging the Conklin Fire Station as a few bricks were knocked off. Numerous trees and branches were blown down in the adjacent neighborhood to the fire station.
A microburst is a localized area of strong straight line winds that descends from a thunderstorm and is less than 2.5 miles in diameter. The Warning Point Meteorologist at the Weather Service office at Greater Binghamton Airport said the burst struck at 1:28 a.m. Monday. It has a storm width of 700 yards and traveled .35 miles. No injuries were reported.
Meanwhile, The National Weather Service also confirms that an EFI tornado touched down just before 2 a.m. Monday in Harford Township in Susquehanna County, Pa. The twister was on the ground for 2.35 miles. Numerous trees and wires were downed. A barn was destroyed and part of a silo.
