NYSEG, an AVANGRID company, has donated $50,000 – the equivalent of 150,000 meals – to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier to support the Food Bank’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 situation. The donation is part of a $2 million commitment by NYSEG’s parent company, AVANGRID, to support national and local programs that are assisting those impacted by COVID-19.

Established in 1981, the Food Bank’s mission is to alleviate hunger and eliminate food waste. As a result, the Food Bank provides more than 11 million pounds of food each year, working with more than 160 agencies, including nonprofits in Tioga, Boome and Chemung counties.

In addition to the $50,000 donation to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, the company announced additional contributions to regional food banks in Western NY, Rochester, Central NY and Northeastern NY. The company previously announced last month that it, along with sister company, RG&E, had donated 17,700 N95 and surgical masks to the state’s COVID-19 response effort to assist health care workers on the front lines. The company also announced a number of steps it has taken to assist customers that have suffered financial hardships as a result of the virus.
