One person is confirmed dead in a Tuesday afternoon accident on the New York State Thruway. The accident, involving as many as 75 vehicles, stopped traffic eastbound at exit 50. The accident was spread over about a mile. The accident was caused by blizzard conditions in the area. A blizzard warning had been issued for parts of Erie County early in the afternoon. Wind gusts of about 45 miles per hour were recorded. The westbound Thruway was closed at Exit 48A, Pembroke.
