Police Officer Assaulted In Steuben County

A traffic stop led to the alleged assault of a Corning police officer. Police say they stopped a suspicious car in the Radisson Hotel parking lot Thursday and later noticed drug paraphernalia inside.
That’s when police say the driver, Shane Carlson of Beaver Dams, took off on foot. When police caught up with Carlson they say he violently resisted hitting the officer several times causing pain, swelling and contusions.  Carlson faces several charges including assault in the second degree, resisting arrest and driving while ability impaired by drugs.
An unidentified passenger in Carlson’s car was released without being charged
