Revised Horseheads, Corning-Painted Post school budgets get voter approval

Voters gave their approval Tuesday for revised budgets in the Horseheads and Corning-Painted Post school districts after previously rejecting their original 2025-26 proposals.

Horseheads put forward a $104.8 million spending plan with a 4.56% increase in the tax levy, cutting around $1 million from the original proposal and nearly 3% from the tax levy increase.

Meanwhile, Corning-Painted Post voters approved a $144.2 million spending plan with a 2.97% tax levy increase. The revised budget came in more than $2 million lower than the original, with the tax levy increase lowered by nearly 5%.

If either school district failed to gain approval from voters Tuesday, they would have to fall back on a bare bones contingency budget without an increase in the tax levy, in line with New York State Law.
