Several Local Emergency Response Teams Receive State Grants

Several local emergency response teams will share in a $6.5 million grant from the State Homeland Security Department. The $6.5 million in funding supports New York’s explosive detection canine teams, hazardous materials teams, tactical teams, and technical rescue and urban search teams, as well as the protection of critical infrastructure.

 

Broome County and regional partners, Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego counties will receive $108,000 to enhance their HazMat teams. Cayuga County, along with partners, Tompkins and Cortland Counties will receive $72,000. Schuyler County and partner counties, Tioga, Chemung, and Steuben, will share $106,000. All grants are to support their HazMat teams.

 

The City of Binghamton will receive $50,000 for a canine team to detect explosive materials.

 

The City of Ithaca and the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office will share a grant to support their SWAT teams.
