State Police Charge 32 with Impaired Driving; 5 Charged with Felonies

Members of the New York State Police in Troop C arrested 37 people in the month of July for driving while intoxicated or impaired by drugs, including five felony arrests.  

On July 8, 2020 at approximately 4:41 p.m., New York State Police at Homer arrested Brandon L. Clarkage 37 of Johnson City, for the felony of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (with a previous conviction within 10 years).  Troopers were dispatched to a two-car crash at the intersection of East Main Street and the Interstate 81 northbound ramp in the village of Marathon.  An investigation revealed that Clark turned left in front of the driver of the other vehicle and was struck.  As the troopers interviewed the operators of each vehicle, they observed that Clark displayed characteristics associated with alcohol impairment.  Clark was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which he failed.  He was arrested and transported to SP Homer for processing.  His reportable B.A.C was 0.28% — more than three times the legal limit.  Clark was subsequently released on appearance tickets to the town of Marathon court on August 12, 2020 then turned over to a sober third party.  

On July 10, 2020 at approximately 1:35 a.m., New York State Police at Endwell arrested Brandy K. Griffinage 37 of Endwell, for the felony of Driving While Intoxicated (with a previous conviction within 10 years).  A trooper observed a vehicle make vehicle and traffic infractions while on State Route 17 in the town of Union and initiated a traffic stop.  The trooper observed Griffin display common factors associated with impairment and asked her to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which she failed.  She was subsequently arrested then transported to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing.  

On July 19, 2020 at approximately 2:31 a.m., New York State Police at Binghamton arrested Krista M. Snedekerage 29 of Vestal, for the felony of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (with a previous conviction within 10 years).  Troopers were dispatched by Broome County 911 of a report of a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on Interstate 81 near State Route 17 in the city of Binghamton.  Troopers located the vehicle on State Route 17, still traveling in the wrong direction.  Troopers initiated a traffic stop and after interviewing Snedeker, she was arrested for DWI.  Snedeker’s reportable B.A.C was 0.24% — three times the legal limit.  She was processed and issued appearance tickets to the city of Binghamton court then released to a sober third party.  

On July 23, 2020 at approximately 6:00 p.m., New York State Police at Binghamton arrested Michael T. McCabeage 41 of Dickinson, for the felony of Driving While Intoxicated (with a previous conviction within 10 years).  A trooper was dispatched by Broome County 911 to a report of a male passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle at the Speedway in the town of Dickinson.  An investigation at the scene revealed that McCabe had driven his vehicle impaired.  He was subsequently arrested and processed.  McCabe was released on appearance tickets to the town of Dickinson court on August 27, 2020 and turned over to a sober third party.  

On July 15, 2020 at approximately 12:35 p.m., New York State Police at Stamford arrested Elwin J. Johnson Sr., age 41 of Jefferson, NY, for the felony of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the first degree and the misdemeanor of Driving While Intoxicated.  A trooper traveling on County Highway 40 in the town of Worcester observed vehicle and traffic violations and initiated a traffic stop.  The trooper observed Johnson signs of impairment and investigated further.  After an investigation, Johnson Sr., was arrested.  His reportable B.A.C was 0.16% — two times the legal limit. He was processed and issued appearance tickets to the town of Worcester court on August 14 ,2020 then released to a sober third party.
