Steven Pieper, 23, of the Town of Clay has been sentenced to 23 years to life in prison.
Pieper pleaded guilty last month to a charge of murder in the death of his ex-girlfriend 20-year-old Jenni-Lyn Watson.
During Pieper’s sentencing, the Judge said, “You deserve to spend the rest of your life in prison.”
Watson had come home on her Thanksgiving break from college.
Pieper admitted he strangled her at her parent’s home after a conversation about their recent break up.
Watson’s body was found several days later in Clay Central Park, after an extensive search by police and volunteers.
The case received wide media attention at the time.
