Waverly High School student killed in three-car crash in Newfield

WHS grad in serious condition following accident

NEWFIELD – The Valley community is mourning the loss of one of their own as a 17-year-old Waverly High School student was killed in a three-car crash in Newfield on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the New York State Police, the accident occurred at approximately 12:50 p.m on West Danby Road near Piper Road in the Town of Newfield.

An investigation revealed that a Toyota Yaris and a Jeep Patriot were both traveling north on Danby Road. The operator of the Jeep Patriot was stopped for another vehicle that was in front of it making a turn when the Jeep Patriot was rear-ended by the Toyota Yaris. The Toyota Yaris then went into on-coming traffic and was struck by a Cadillac CT6.

The passenger of the Toyota Yaris, 17-year-old Peyton C. Shaw, of Waverly, was pronounced deceased on scene.  The operator of the Toyota Yaris, 18-year-old Dale “Ty” Beeman, who graduated from Waverly last spring, was transported by helicopter to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre to be treated for serious injuries.

The operator of the Jeep Patriot, 40-year-old Aristopher D. Bo, of Waverly, and the operator of the Cadillac CT6, 29-year-old Stephen M. Lucente of Spencer, were checked out on scene by EMS but not transported to local hospitals.
