Brian Bonner, also known as Champ, the mascot for the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees was laid off last month from his $22,000 a year job.
Now, he’s suing his old team for violating the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and the state Minimum Wage Act.
According to the suit filed by attorney Peter Winebrake , Mr. Bonner was given the title “marketing and community relations manager,” even though his “primary duties were neither supervisory nor managerial.”
According to the suit, the Yankees “misclassified” the position as “managerial” so Mr. Bonner would be “exempt from federal and state overtime laws.”
The former blue shag rug looking mascot claims that he worked many 80 hour weeks during his two season tenure.
