On Sunday, October 11 at approximately 5:16 PM, Ithaca Police Officers responded to a non-peaceful protest at Police Headquarters, 120 E. Clinton St., involving subjects in the roadway obstructing traffic and making graffiti on public property. Throughout the incident multiple subjects from the protest group were seen spray painting on the roadway, sidewalks, parking lot, street signs along with
the doors and building of the police department. Police provided several photos of the graffiti, but most were too vulgar to post on a family-friendly radion station’s website
Two (2) subjects were arrested during the incident:
- Lucas D. Bonnet (32 years old from Trumansburg, NY): Charged with Making Graffiti and Resisting
Arrest, both Class A Misdemeanor Offenses of the New York State Penal Law. Same was released on an
Appearance Ticket returnable to the Ithaca City Court. - 15 Year Old Juvenile: Charged with Making Graffiti, a Class A Misdemeanor Offense of the New York
State Penal Law, and released to their guardian. Same issued a Juvenile Appearance Ticket returnable to
Tompkins County Probation.
There were multiple other subjects who were also involved in making graffiti during this incident, not
just the two subjects that were arrested. The investigation into this matter is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.
Anyone with information regarding the graffiti that occurred at Ithaca Police Headquarters is asked to contact the Ithaca Police Department.
Chief Nayor was disappointed. “This act of vandalism is reprehensible, and criminal acts of this nature will not be
tolerated. For the past 18 weeks, the officers of the Ithaca Police Department have been thoroughly accommodating and highly professional during the scores of protests that have occurred, making this act even more deplorable,” said Naylor,
During this incident the Ithaca Police were assisted by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police.
