On April 4, Ithaca police investigators arrested Zachary L. Pesold, 58, of West Village Place, and charged him with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. The charges stemmed from multiple incidents when Pesold locked his 2-year old daughter and 4-year old son in their bedrooms and then left the residence. The children were left alone for significant amounts of time on numerous occasions.
Additionally, Pesold forced his 4-year old son out of the apartment late at night in a sleeveless shirt and no shoes in 24-degree weather. Thankfully, after several minutes neighbors intervened.
Zachary L. Pesold is scheduled to appear in Ithaca City Court on 04/10/19. This investigation was conducted in coordination with the Tompkins County District Attorney’s Office and Child Protective Services.
Ithaca Police Department would like to remind everyone that April is Child Abuse Prevention month. We take protecting the children of our community very seriously. If you suspect any children are the victims of abuse, please contact us immediately.
