A man was rescued Wednesday evening after falling 60 feet into an Ithaca gorge. Tompkins County Dispatch got a 911 call a little before 5:00 p.m. saying a person had been located on the Cascadilla Gorge Trail under the Stewart Ave Bridge. The Ithaca Fire Department, along with Bangs Ambulance and Cornell Police worked to rescue the man. A college age male was found semi-conscious with multiple lacerations and head and back pain. It appeared that he had fallen about 60 feet from the edge above, down onto the trail. A passerby found him and called 911. The entire rescue took about an hour and the man was flown to Upstate Trauma Center in Syracuse. The Cornell Police Department is working on identifying the man and investigating the events leading up to the fall.
