Suspect in Ithaca Arson Found Dead in Jail Cell

A man charged with an Ithaca arson has been found dead in the Tompkins County Jail. 31-year-old Joshua Reeves, of Dryden, was arrested on charges related to a fire in a residence on Hudson Street in Ithaca on Wednesday. None of the seven residents were injured in the fire.

Investigators quickly determined that the fire was an arson and arrested Reeves about twelve hours later. It has been reported that the arson may have targeted a girlfriend of Reeves.

Reeves was arraigned and bail was set at $10,000. On Friday, Reeves was found dead in his cell. The death is not believed to be suspicious, but no cause of death has been reported.

The incident was reported to the State Commission on Corrections, which is investigating.
