One person was killed and another injured in two separate incidents in Ithaca gorges on Sunday morning.
According to the Ithaca Fire Department, someone called 911 at about 1:10 a.m. on Sunday to report a person fell into the gorge near the Stewart Avenue Bridge.
First responders stabilized the victim and firefighters used a basket and high-angle rope system to remove them from the gorge. The victim was flown to a regional trauma center for treatment.
The rescue took about an hour-and-a-half. Ithaca Police is currently investigating the incident.
At 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, first responders were called to the Fall Creek Gorge for a report about a person in the water.
Authorities at the scene found a deceased person near the Stewart Avenue Bridge. It took around three hours to recover the victim from the gorge.
Ithaca Police is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, but there was no indication of foul play at this time.
The identity of the victim has not been released.
