Wall Collapses at the Binghamton-JC Sewage Treatment Plant

A wall collapse at the Binghamton-Johnson City Joint Sewage Treatment Plant has caused partially treated sewage to leak from the facility.
The wall, in a filtration area of the plant, collapsed around 9 AM Monday, forcing sediment out of the facility and into a nearby NYSEG parking lot.
Though the leak has stopped, the DEC confirms the spillage has traveled into the Susquehanna.
None of the workers were injured, but there is concern for possible environmental impacts.
Meanwhile, the facility is continuing to treat sewage to avoid backups, although at a reduced capacity.
The plant services ten municipalities and Binghamton University.
