This week the Village of Owego Board of Trustees passed a law establishing the salaries of the Mayor and Trustees. They Mayor’s salary is set at $5,000 and the Trustees’ at $2,400. These were the amounts paid to each position before the Board–with different members–voted last March to reduce them to $1. By passing the compensation measure, the Board ensures that future Boards won’t be able to play politics with the salaries quite as easily. Changes in the compensation for those positions will now require the passing of a new law and a public hearing.
