There was a large turnout Thursday night as Elmira residents voiced their concerns about New York’s new gun laws. The Chemung County Sheriff’s office held their last of two informational sessions on the topics. The meeting was intended to enlighten gun owners by answering some frequently asked questions about the new legislation, including which types of guns are considered illegal. Under the new law, semi-automatic pistols and rifles with detachable magazines and one military-style feature will be banned. Sheriff Christopher Moss said that the meetings have been very busy and show just how important the issue is to gun owners in the state. Owners of these guns have until April of 2014 to register their assault weapons.
