The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for our area from 10 am this morning until Saturday 7 am. The forecast is for heavy snow, with accumulations of between five and ten inches. It will be the second Friday in a row when treacherous weather caused hazardous driving conditions just as the weekend begins. Meteorologists predict most of the snow will fall on Friday afternoon and evening. As the storm moves north of us, it’s expected to dump as much as a foot into northern New York State. As it heads toward coastal New England, the storm will gather momentum and could mean as much as two feet of snow for New England and significant amounts in the New York City area.
Some schools will be having early dismissals today including Owego-Apalachin schools, as Owego Free Academy and Owego Apalachin Middle School will release at 1 o’clock this afternoon, with Apalachin and Owego elementary schools set to release at 2 pm, all after school activities are canceled. Candor schools which will dimiss the elementary at 11:30 this morning and the high school will dismiss at 11:45, all after school activities are canceled. Tioga will be dismissing early at noon today. Spencer-Van Etten will be releasing the elementary today at 11;30 with the middle and high school releasing at 11:45, all after school activities for S-VE are also canceled, and Whitney Point will be releasing at 11 o’clock this morning, again, all after school activities are canceled.
