A cell phone company whose plan to put up a new tower in Johnson City that was once shot down by local residents, has come up with a new location. This time the tower site has approval. On Monday the JC Zoning Board approved a special use permit and variances for the structure, which would stand 120 feet tall and be built behind Warehouse Carpet Outlets on Reynolds Road. Capital Telecom says the goal of the new tower is to increase cell phone coverage in the vicinity of the Oakdale Mall. The tower site still needs to get the approval of the village planning board, who will vote on the matter later in February.
