The community in Towanda is pulling together to remember the toddler who was killed in a house fire this past weekend. 2-year-old John Yoder III was killed when his family’s home on the 100 block of North 4th Street in Towanda broke out in flames just before midnight Friday night. Yoder’s parents, Amber and John, were able to rescue their infant son, Sawyer, but young John was unable to be rescued. He was found in his bedroom where his death was determined to be caused by smoke inhalation. A makeshift memorial is growing for the grieving family, as people are eager to help assist the Yoder’s in any way they can. People have dropped off donations of clothing, formula, diapers, gift cards and cash. On Monday alone, over $300 was raised for the family. Memorial services for John are scheduled for Saturday at the Bowen Funeral Home in Towanda.
