Residents in the Chenango Forks school district approved a plan Tuesday to buy four new buses for students. Turnout was light Tuesday, but the approval gives the district the go-ahead to buy four new buses, including three 6-passenger buses and one 48-passenger bus. The vote passed 85-41. All of the buses run on liquid propane, which district officials say are more fuel efficient than diesel buses. Officials say the liquid propane will also be cheaper amid rising fuel costs. The buses will be paid off over a five-year period costing $15,000 per year. A separate vote was needed because funding comes from an installment bond, which is financed over five years.
