Dozens of workers may be out of work and many more transferred to other areas. The 21st Century Auto Insurance call center informed its employees Tuesday that the building’s lease on the Vestal parkway will expire in May of 2014 and will not be renewed. As a result, about 75 percent of its 225 employees, nearly 170 workers, will be offered jobs in other places around the country or to work from home. Jobs for the remaining 25 percent of the workforce will be eliminated and the workers will likely be offered severance packages. 21st Century Auto was acquired by Farmers Insurance in 2009. A spokesman for Farmers confirmed the loss and transfer of jobs is all part of the acquisition. Workers offered to continue working for 21st Century Insurance may be relocated to Delaware, Michigan, Florida or Arizona. The relocation process, and layoffs, will not begin until the start of next year at the earliest.
