A Binghamton firefighter, husband and father is found dead inside his firehouse. 57-year-old John Janos died early Saturday morning, according to Binghamton Assistant Fire Chief Richard Allen. Allen says Janos was on call Friday night and responded at approximately 12:30 a.m. to a false smoke detector alarm activation; there was no fire. Allen says during the response, Janos had to climb up five flights of stairs. After crews returned from the call, they dispersed in the Binghamton firehouse at 39 West State Street. Sometime early Saturday morning, Janos was found dead. Autopsy results are pending. Janos was a member of Binghamton’s Fire Department since 1988, and served as the local union president for several years. He was also nearing retirement. Janos leaves behind a wife and three children. Allen says Janos will be greatly missed.
