The next budget for the village of Johnson City has passed. The village approved the resolution to adopt their budget less than two months before their fiscal year begins. The original plan for closing such a large budget gap meant Johnson City raising the tax levy to almost 3.7 percent, but this final draft brings the levy back down to 2.57 percent. Although taxes have been raised, Mayor Greg Deemie says there hasn’t been much of an outcry from the public. The vote for the budget was passed with a 4-to-1 tally, with trustee Richard Balles casting the one vote opposed, saying he believes the tax levy to be too high. The budget will go into effect on June 1st.
