The Maine-Endwell Board of Education adopted a $44.9 million budget on Monday, and will reduce programs and staff as a result. The board accepted a 5.9 percent tax levy which voters will see next month. If approved, the levy would add $130 in additional taxes per year per $100,000 in property value. Maine-Endwell district received close to $430,000 in state aid. The board agreed on Monday to save library and music positions from kindergarten through 12th grade. If this new budget is approved, 70 positions will be eliminated, although 23 will be the result of retirements. Some modified athletic teams are also proposed to be eliminated in the new budget. This proposed budget is 3.5 percent lower than last year’s. A budget hearing will be held on May 9, and the final budget vote is set for May 21st.
