In the wake of a series of violent attacks in Ithaca’s west side, Ithaca Police are finding cooperation from the public hard to come by. Mayor Svante Myrick and Acting Police Chief John Barber said victims in two stabbings, as well as a recent shooting, are refusing to cooperate with police, and even an eye witness to one of the stabbings is remaining silent. The mayor and police have urged the community to understand the only way to keep the streets safe is if there is full cooperation with law enforcement. In hopes of improving relations and building trust, the Ithaca Police Department will deploy two-person foot patrols during the evenings in Ithaca’s West Hill neighborhood who will interact with the city’s residents.
