The Village of Nichols’ historic Kirby Park will officially re-open on Saturday. The park suffered in the wake of Tropical Storm Lee, but over $153,000 in federal and state funding, local business grants and donations, and community contributions have allowed the park to be restored. To mark the occasion, there will be a parade, starting at 9:00 a.m., from the Nichols fire station to the Park, a ribbon cutting ceremony and a chicken barbecue. Baseball fans will also be able to enjoy the Nichols Little League’s opening day. The only outstanding item is the removal and reconstruction of the bandstand, which is on hold until the remainder of the FEMA funding is received.
