The City of Binghamton’s bridges were taken over by thousands of runners on Sunday morning. The 3rd Annual Greater Binghamton Bridge Run is a half-marathon and 5K event that travels across the Court, Clinton, South Washington, and Tompkins bridges. Approximately 2,500 runners and thousands of spectators lined the streets on Sunday. 25-year-old Rob Ahrens of Clarks Summitt, Pennsylvania took home first place in the races, while 27-year-old Kellie Hasselwander of Syracuse placed first for the women. In light of the bombings at the Boston Marathon last month, officials said extra precautions were taken this year at the race, including restricting bathroom usage and placement of more security personnel along the course.
