An Elmira man suffers serious burns after his house caught on fire Wednesday morning. Fire officials say the fire started in the kitchen of the home on Diven Avenue just before 8 o’clock. The man in the home was heating oil around 4 o’clock Wednesday morning and fell asleep with the stove still on. When he woke up, the kitchen of the house was ablaze. The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Arnot Ogden Hospital with serious 2nd degree burns according to authorities at the scene. His condition is unknown at this time. No one else was home during the fire.
