Construction of homes on Binghamton’s southside is underway. Four formerly abandoned and blighted properties on Mary Street in Binghamton were purchased and demolished by the city for the project. A total of $160,000 in grant money for each home was secured by the city and the First Ward Action Council to help fund the construction of new homes. When construction is finished on the first home, it will be sold for about $85,000 to qualified graduates of the Binghamton Homeownership Academy. The first of the four new houses is expected to be ready for sale by August. After it is sold, construction on the next house will begin.
