A traffic safety road check leads to the discovery of more than $36,000 worth of marijuana. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office said 39-year-old Scott Gaynor, of Portlandville, was in possession of more than 12 pounds of marijuana. Three pounds of it was found in his truck on County Route 35 in the town of Milford, just north of Oneonta, after deputies noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from his vehicle. An additional search of Gaynor’s home brought in more than 9 pounds of marijuana, along with more than $15,000 in cash, a scale, plastic bags used for packaging and 10 hyrdrocodone tablets. In addition, deputies said Gaynor was driving on a revoked license for a 2012 DWI conviction. He also did not have a ignition interlock device installed in his car as required by law. Gaynor was arraigned in Milford Court on two counts of felony criminal possession of marijuana, misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor aggravated operation of a motor vehicle, and misdemeanor operating a motor vehicle without an ignition interlock device. He was sent to the Otsego County Jail on $15,000 cash bail. If convicted, Gaynor could face up to five years in prison.
