Binghamton City Council members discussed future construction on the Exchange Street Bridge and what that could mean for traffic around Binghamton. City Engineer Philip Krey says the bridge needs to be milled and paved, as well as have structural and deck parts replaced and repaired. He says the project will cost $2.5 million. Two million will be covered through federal money, $375,000 by the state and $125,000 locally. He says the bridge is safe, but repairs are needed to get it back in its proper condition. The final design should be complete by the fall. Construction could start April of 2014 and end that September.
