A complex and detailed escape plot was prevented by officers at the Elmira Correctional Facility over the weekend. The State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association say several inmates were planning some sort of disruption in the facility over the holiday weekend, with intentions of escaping. After being tipped off about the plan, the facility was placed on lockdown Friday. Several weapons were found during a search of the facility. An investigation is currently ongoing.
