Calvin Coolidge Elementary will be closed until December, meaning its students will be moved to different schools within the district. Earlier this month, asbestos was found in the school’s basement. School officials say the cleanup is already underway, but the building won’t be open for the start of the year Sept. 4. The district is getting rid of carpeting, ceiling tiles and books, anything to which the asbestos particles could attach. Kindergarten students will go to Roosevelt; first graders will attend Wilson; second through fourth graders will be moved to Columbus and fifth graders will be at East Middle. The transportation schedules for all schools need to be reassessed. Officials say the school website will be updated frequently with new information. There will be an update on the school at the next board meeting on Sept.17.
