There will be some changes in the local traffic as a result of President Obama’s visit. A portion of the Vestal Parkway will be shut down for two separate 20-minute intervals today. The parkway will be shut down between Bunn Hill and Murray Hill roads both when he arrives and when he leaves. Those are the two roads the run along the side of Binghamton University’s campus. There has been an increase in security for some parking lots along the parkway, including UHS, to ensure that people aren’t just using the parking lots to get closer to the President. Obama will be traveling south on Interstate 81, but it has not been released which route in Vestal he will be taking. While there won’t be much parking available, police say the grassy areas along the parkway will be open for people to stand and watch the President’s motorcade.
